Hypertrichosis can occur in either localised or diffused form. The condition may be congenital or acquired at any time. Hirsutism which is a kind of hypertrichosis occurs in women and refers to excess body hair (androgenic hair) following the male pattern. Dermatologists evaluate the causes of hair growth by conducting blood. tests that identify the precise origin of the irregular hair growth, and advice a treatment. The Dermatology team’s main aim is to ascertain whether the trouble in hair growth is alterable, and then to customise treatment as per patient’s unique needs.
Alopecia Treatment
In focal alopecia hair loss or bald spots occur in some areas of the scalp – whereas in diffused alopecia hair loss happens throughout the scalp. Prior to starting treatment, our dermatologists evaluate the condition to know whether there is a scarring or non-scarring. In alopecia, damage is caused to hair follicles due to scarring (inflammation within the scalp). In non-scarring type of alopecia, as the hair follicles still exists, treatment is offered to the patients for re-growth of lost hair. In scarring type of alopecia treatment is provided to prevent further hair loss.

Baldness occurs when one experiences excessive hair loss. Baldness is mostly seen in men; however, some females also suffer from this problem. There are many reasons for hair loss with the hereditary condition being the most common. Other reasons include stress, side effects of some medicines, certain hair treatments, unhealthy diet and illness among others. For people suffering from hair loss, there is no reason to worry.Max Health Hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to perform hair transplant with utmost precision and ensure you a head full of hair.
A hair transplant is a medical procedure performed by a qualified dermatologist. Baldness usually occurs in the middle or top of the head. Thus, the procedure involves taking hair from the side or back of the head and transplanting them on the part that lacks hair.
A hair transplant can be a painful procedure therefore the patient is administered local anesthesia prior to the surgery. The doctors at Max Health begin the procedure by first thoroughly cleaning the scalp for better results. There are basically two methods for hair transplant-Follicular Unit transplantation (FUT) and the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).
The Follicular Unit transplantation, which is also known as Follicular Unit Strip Surgery, is a procedure where the surgeon with the aid of a medical instrument removes a strip of skin, which is between 6 and 10 inches, from the back of the head. Following this, the part of the head from where the skin is removed is stitched. By using a scalpel, the skin that has been removed from the scalp is separated into between 500 to 2000 smaller pieces known as grafts and some of these may comprise only one or a few hair. Small punctures are made to make space for new hair. Next, the medical team undertakes the process of grafting in which the grafts are placed into the holes. The number of grafts depends on a variety of factors like the type and quality of hair, color, the size of the area where the transplantation has to take place among others.
The Follicular Unit Extraction method involves the medical team completely shaving off each and every hair from the back of the person’s head. From here the medical team removes the follicles. Similar to the Follicular Unit Transplantation, the FUE also involves the placing of grafts into the small holes made in the scalp by the medical team. Once the procedure has been completed, the doctors cover the area where the surgery has taken place with bandages.
Precautions
Certain precautions need to be taken after undergoing hair transplantation.
- After the hair transplant is done, the scalp will be swollen. Therefore it is not to be exposed to direct sunlight.
- There will be some itching post-surgery. It is advisable to not rub or scratch the areas where itching takes place as this will damage the grafts that have been transplanted.
- Drinking or smoking must be avoided for a few days after the surgery has been performed.
- For a week after the surgery, do not indulge in heavy exercises or sports. After about 10 days you can indulge in light exercises.
- Excessive sweating can cause damage or lead to infections; therefore activity that causes sweating must be avoided.
- Do not immediately wash your hair and do not put on any caps without the advice of your doctor.
